Heat transfer in the seabed boundary layer

We present a theoretical model of the temperature distribution in boundary layer region close to seabed. Using perturbation expansion, multiple scales and similarity variables, we show how free-surface waves enhance heat transfer between seawater seabed with solid, horizontal, smooth surface. Maximum exchange occurs at fixed frequency depending on ocean depth, does not increase monotonically length phase speed propagating waves. Close agreement is found predictions by analytical finite-difference scheme. It that can substantially affect spatial evolution layer. This suggests need extend existing models neglect effects wave field, especially view practical applications engineering oceanography.
